KPT Basic 1.0.0 for PowerPoint for Windows
===========================================

KPT Basic is the free edition of KPT, a set of tools for PowerPoint made by KHBROS.
It adds one tab, "KPT Basic", to PowerPoint:

Text Split a text box into paragraphs or lines, Merge text boxes, change Case
(Sentence, UPPERCASE, Title, lowercase) keeping your colours and fonts,
Align text, and reading Direction (left-to-right, right-to-left).
Arrange Align, Distribute and Same size, matched to the FIRST shape you select
(click the reference shape first, then Shift-click or Ctrl-click the others).
Tables Format Table with three colour presets: Navy, Slate and Charcoal.
Support Buy ADVANCED, Support KHBROS and About.

Buttons with a padlock belong to KPT ADVANCED. Clicking one tells you what it does and
offers to open the KPT ADVANCED page. Nothing is sent anywhere, there is no account and
nothing runs on its own.

You need: Windows 10 or 11, and the PowerPoint desktop app from Microsoft 365 or
PowerPoint 2016, 2019, 2021 or 2024. (It does not work in PowerPoint on the web.)

What is in this folder
----------------------

Install KPT Basic.cmd Double-click this one to install. Its type is
"Windows Command Script" and its icon has a gear.
Uninstall KPT Basic.cmd Double-click this one to remove KPT Basic.
  KPT_Basic.ppam The add-in itself.
KPT-Basic-setup.ps1 Used by "Install KPT Basic". You do not need to open it.
KPT-Basic-remove.ps1 Used by "Uninstall KPT Basic". You do not need to open it.
  Read me first.txt This file.

Windows often hides the end of a file name (.cmd, .ps1, .ppam, .txt), so you may see
just "Install KPT Basic". That is the right one.

Install
-------

1. Before you unzip: right-click the zip file, choose Properties. If you see a
checkbox "Unblock" at the bottom, tick it and click OK. (This tells Windows you
   trust the download.)
2. Right-click the zip file and choose "Extract All...", then "Extract".
3. Close PowerPoint completely (save your work first).
4. In the extracted folder, double-click "Install KPT Basic" (the one with the gear
   icon, type "Windows Command Script").
   - If Windows asks "Do you want to run this file?" or says "The publisher could not
     be verified", click "Run".
   - If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click "More info", then "Run anyway".
   - A black window shows what was done. Press any key to close it.
5. Open PowerPoint. The "KPT Basic" tab is after the "View" tab.

The installer needs no administrator password. It changes only two things, for your
Windows user only:
  - it copies KPT_Basic.ppam to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns
    (PowerPoint's own add-ins folder, which PowerPoint already trusts);
  - it tells PowerPoint to load that file when it starts (one registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\PowerPoint\AddIns\KPT_Basic).
It does not change any security or Trust Center setting. Running it twice is fine.

If PowerPoint shows a message about macros
------------------------------------------

KPT Basic is made of macros, so Office checks it. What you might see, and what to do:

- A window "Microsoft PowerPoint Security Notice" that mentions KPT_Basic and
macros, with the buttons "Enable Macros" and "Disable Macros":
  click "Enable Macros".

- A red bar "SECURITY RISK Microsoft has blocked macros from running because the
source of this file is untrusted":
the file still carries the "downloaded from the internet" mark. Close PowerPoint
and run "Install KPT Basic" again (it removes the mark). If the bar comes back:
close PowerPoint, press Windows key + R, type %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns and press
Enter, right-click KPT_Basic.ppam, choose Properties, tick "Unblock", click OK.

- The KPT Basic tab does not appear and there is no message:
in PowerPoint choose File > Options > Add-ins. At the bottom, next to "Manage",
choose "PowerPoint Add-ins" and click "Go...". If KPT_Basic is in the list, make
sure it is ticked. If it is not in the list, see "Install by hand" below.

- A work or school computer may block all macros by company rule. KPT Basic cannot
and will not change that; please ask your IT team.

Install by hand (without the installer)
---------------------------------------

1. Press Windows key + R, type %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns and press Enter.
2. Copy KPT_Basic.ppam into that folder. Right-click the copy, choose Properties,
tick "Unblock" if you see it, and click OK.
3. Open PowerPoint, choose File > Options > Add-ins. Next to "Manage" choose
   "PowerPoint Add-ins" and click "Go...".
4. Click "Add New...", choose KPT_Basic.ppam in that folder and click "Open".
If PowerPoint asks about macros, click "Enable Macros". Click "Close".

Remove
------

Close PowerPoint, then double-click "Uninstall KPT Basic" (the one with the gear icon,
type "Windows Command Script"). It removes the add-in file and the registry key, and
nothing else.

Remove by hand: in PowerPoint choose File > Options > Add-ins, "Manage: PowerPoint
Add-ins", "Go...", select KPT_Basic and click "Remove". Then close PowerPoint and delete
KPT_Basic.ppam from %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns .

The Buy ADVANCED and Support KHBROS buttons open these pages in your web browser.
If a button seems to do nothing (some work computers stop PowerPoint from opening a
browser), type the address into your browser instead. About in the KPT Basic tab
shows both addresses too.
